I know, in most new relationships like ours, we would agree to keep our pasts in the past...
But here...that's not the case with us! I want you to see where I came from! Where did this passion begin and how far have I come?
I'll tell you!!
WARNING: ADULT CONTENT AHEAD!
Yes- my first cake was an inappropriate one...
So, back in 2007 (or was it 2008?), my girlfriend (We'll call her Jane) was preparing for her 19th birthday. She was dating a male stripper at the time (We'll call him John). (We worked at Hooters- we had a very interesting group of friends). For her birthday, she invited our wild group of friends to her boyfriend's "performance." They theme was "Pink P-naughty male part-S." All of the decorations were pink naughty parts. Straws, necklaces, hats (yep... see my hat below...)
SO- Where were we?...OH, the party... So, I wanted to contribute. I always want to have a creative, memorable gift. But I had NO money. A frantic mess, I decided to bake a cake. Why not? It's easy. I can make it naughty-man-part shaped and Jane would love it! So- I strolled over to Publix and with a $10 bill, bought a box of funfetti cake, a can of frosting, some swirly candles (to later represent hair. yeah...that happened) and eggs.
This was NOT a fun process. I baked 2 sheet cakes and could NOT figure out how to make the cakes the same size and into a 2 layer cake. Eventually, I figured out that I can use a sheet of scrap paper, draw the shape of my cake, cut it out and stencil it onto the sheet cake.
Stoked! I finally build my naughty cake! Time to frost!
Just under halfway through the frosting process, I RUN OUT! Ugh! What the heck!? i have NO dye and no frosting. HOW do I finish frosting this pink cake?!
ENTER: Stroke of GENIUS!
While infusing a water bottle with a single-use strawberry Crystal Light drink packet and watching the water turn pink, it HIT me!
BAM!!!
Make homemade frosting with the powdered sugar lying around, a Google'd recipe and the drink mix! It'll turn the frosting pink AND make a yummy taste!
What a success! The frosting was DEEEElcious! The cake was hilarious. After this stressful day...
I was hooked.
A few months later, I YouTubed "How to make Fondant." I was on to my next project! A graduation cake for one of the greatest men I know!
It may look VERY home made. BUT, this was my first amateur adventure in baking with fondant. The floodgates opened!
Since then, I have made cakes and pies for ALL occasions...In chronological order: take a look...
A pumpkin-pecan pie made out of sheer boredom after Halloween. I had a pumpkin with no plans for his future...SO I cut him in half, gutted him, baked him for 2 hours, pureed him with spices, made a fresh crust and made a pie!
A year later, a girlfriend celebrated her 22nd birthday. She is an inappropriate woman. Openly talks about bowels and gross things like that. It felt appropriate to have a "Deuce-Deuce" party for her. This is the poo-looking cake.
Then, another girlfriend got a boob job for her birthday. This cake felt appropriate. Unfortunately, I ran out of orange food coloring and could not make skin color. It was a hit nonetheless!
That Christmas, made a fresh CinnApple pie with handmade crust...
Spent HOURS whipping eggs for this french silk pie with home made whipped topping
Then Jane got preggers last year!!!! So, for Jane's baby shower, I made this adorable cake! What a hit! Little sleeping baby!
A birthday party filled with dieters... I made pink mini cupcakes and frosting with butter substitute, egg whites and splenda. Little peanut butter cups cut in half because they are her favorite!
TAILGATE TIME! We LOVE football! College football to be exact! Gooooo Bulls!
At our German- themed tailgate last year, I stayed up half the night in order to home-make dozens of pretzels. They were AMAZING!
Another friend got preggers in 2011! This baby shower was superhero themed and being that the daddy was a redhead, the baby's nickname was "Gingeroo." So, I replicated the last baby shower cake with a few cute tweaks! Note the Waah and Poo instead of ZAP or POW! :0)
A few months ago, one of my coworkers was planning a birthday party for her 3 year old. She knew about my baking and asked for a cake. (the crown and wand got broken at the party)
Christmas 2011. A good friend had to travel home to celebrate his brother's birthday as well as his parent's anniversary. I baked him a cake to symbolize both events with the birthday side being spiced chocolate and the heart being vanilla-peppermint for the holidays!
And here I am...I've come a long way. I've yet to use my new mixer for a cake. When I do, you'll know! There are many cakes in between that I did not photograph. Jane also got a martini cake for her 20th. The boob job girl got a 21 shaped cake for her 21st and much more. BUT you get the point!
Now you know me! And my silly cakes! With no professional training and an extreme lack of artistic ability...let's see where this road takes me!
All my love,
S
